The following are some interesting facts concerning the elderly population, in home care, and other interesting subjects:
-The elderly population (65 and older) will exceed the growth rate of the population as a whole
-About 1 in 5 will be elderly by the year 2030
-The oldest old (85 and older) is the fastest growing segment of the elderly population
-Population over 65 – 37 million
-Population over 85 – 5.3 million
-Approximately 40% of children are caring for at least one loved one
-Over 1.1 million Tennesseans were 60+ in 2007
-Over 100,000 Tennesseans were 85+ in 2007
-100,000 Tennesseans were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2000
-Over 220,000 Tennesseans were caregivers in 2007
